Thinking Green

This sketch was done from a photo I took somewhere in France a few years ago. Don't you love the shuttered window?

I've been experimenting with mixing different shades of green and using fewer lines to define shapes in my sketches. My goal is to get skilled enough with watercolor that the painting does more of the work, and my line drawings won't be as important in determining what you're looking at. Clearly a long way to go!

Using green is more than a painting exercise -  it's much-needed therapy to combat the endless gray days we've been having.  Today finally is a beautiful, sun-lit day with perfect blue skies. I went home at lunch time to walk the dogs. You could see the first green sprigs of crocuses coming up out of the dead grass.

A happy and welcome sight. Today is March 2 - spring is only 19 days away!

  1. Always enjoy seeing your new work. I concur with you on the challenge in letting painting do more of the work. I'm still in the stages of the drawing being the best part of what I produce as I learn to mix and use color as a tool (and not let it take over). Will be interested to see your progression. Nancy
