Spring Discovery

I've been looking for this white lavender for my garden since I saw it in a garden in Paris. I finally found it at a local nursery today, so I bought six baby size plants that will go into the garden tomorrow. But first, I had to draw it.

I won't put it in tonight because it's supposed to drop into the 30's. I know I'm jumping the gun a bit on the season, but it's time to put an end to winter. So in they'll go tomorrow, alongside the beautiful, hardy purple lavender that's already well established. My hope is they'll be inspired by the big guys.

It's Latin name is lavendula intermedia alba. A lot to live up to, don't you think?.

Adding flavor to the day

I'm supposed to be working now, since I actually do write for a living. But I had to take a minute to post this because I was thinking about what I would rather be doing, which is painting. And, of course, eating.

Food provides sustenance in lots of ways. Here, it fed my soul for a while -  until it went into a fabulous pasta dish, with parts of these two bulbs providing much of the flavor.

I like to think they enjoyed being drawn before they were sliced and diced.

What is it about the shapes of these that's so much fun to draw?
