The Don
My goldens will never forgive me, but I had a great time painting this portrait of Vito Corleone for my daughter to give to her friend. Vito is a sweet but mischievous guy who lives up to his name.
I love painting portraits. It's a challenge - and an impossibility - to capture a being's personality on a page, whether the being is human, feline or canine. I think Cezanne said a painter should try to capture the emotion he feels when he sees something rather than trying to paint the thing itself.
I hope I've captured something of Vito here.

Discovery
Some of us discover things later than others. I discovered the joy of dogs long ago. Watercolor is a new discovery. This painting, of one of my goldens, combines the two.
So far I'm better with dogs than I am with watercolor, but with practice, who knows?
